Why I do art
- speaking of scandinavia
- James Collinsi was going to ask if you know anything about this Folketro (Danish, Norwegian) or folktro (Swedish) is the North Germanic for "folk religion", referring to Scandinavian folklore in particular. In the Scandinavian Heathen discourse, the term is used for a religion that consists of a folklore that is believed to be the descendant of historical Norse paganism. Folketro is considered a living tradition and that does not include the use of reconstructionism in any way, nor the use of historical sources such as the Edda or notation of folklore. The term is in conscious contrast to Asatru, the reconstructionist revival of medieval Norse polytheism. Preferred terms are Forn Sed ("Old Custom") or Nordisk Sed ("Nordic Custom"). Attention is rather given to traditional song, dance, folk music and festivals.Critics refer to the folketro movement as funtrad (for fundamentalistisk traditionalisme, "fundamentalistic traditionalism"). Not to be confused is the "radical traditionalism" of the New Right, which invokes national mysticist or occultist notions of a pan-Indo-European tradition rather than the focus on regional customs advocated by folketro. Proponents of Folketro include the Samfälligheten för Nordisk Sed in Sweden and the Foreningen Forn Sed in Norway.
- Erik Bleijenbergi don't know much about that manmy knowledge about northen mysticism and paganism is prose edda
- Erik Bleijenbergnothing moreand books on prose eddaand of course the numerous black metal bands singing about loki en ginnungagap and yggdrasil
- James Collinsheh
- Erik Bleijenbergit looks interesting though.although the description you sent me is rather vaguevagueness is attractive
- James Collinswell its covering what are probablly exceedingly tiny procivinal movements spread over 3 or 4 countries
- Erik Bleijenberghehis it lapland related maybe?
- James Collinsbut the idea of folketro is interesting to apply to national occultismsi don't know enough about lappsspecifically british occultism
- Erik Bleijenbergfolketro roughly translates to folk religion apparently
- James Collinsyeah
- Erik Bleijenbergsounds like your regular paganismblatantlyit's not, apparantlybut still
- James Collinsheh
- Erik Bleijenbergfolk religion is a wide conceptfolk religion could be occultism
- James Collinsyeahis a codified and nationalised folk religion still a folk religion
- Erik Bleijenberghehyeahi don't care much for terminologysomething is what it is
- James Collinswas wicca a folk religion
- Erik Bleijenbergor what you perceive it ashaha
- James Collinsheh
- Erik Bleijenbergin my opinion, yes
- James Collinsyeah... it kind of appropriated all the more intellectualized strands and re-purposed them
- Erik Bleijenbergwhat do you think of wicca?
- James Collinsi understand it... intellectually... its a fertility culti don't sympathise with its appeal beyond being the most accessible gateway to paganism thoughas in
- Erik Bleijenbergyeahi understand
- James Collinspromises of magical power and shitbasicly come down to talk is cheapnot that i care about magical power anyway... just magical results
- Erik Bleijenbergthat's what i was think of earlier
- James Collinsi think how its a fertility cult... and a magical system.... is kind of counter intuitivei meanit makes perfect sense for a folk religion
- Erik Bleijenbergit doesn't really matter what stage you reach on journeys
- James Collinsbut for a religion whose publishing arm rivals the christians...
- Erik Bleijenbergbut what you bring back from them
- James Collinsthe magic and the fertility aspects sort of become distinct things
- Erik Bleijenbergis what is important.yeahdo you really oppose any religions?like, do you hate christians or jews?
- James Collinsi think both of those religions are generally repugnant
- Erik Bleijenbergi can respect true spirituality, regardless where it comes from.contemporary christanity or
- James Collinsi worry about people who subscribe to creeds that arn't internally consistant
- Erik Bleijenbergnever worry about people.
- James Collinsi meani worry about what they are going to do
- Erik Bleijenberglike what?
- James Collinswell it could be shower you with love or burn you at the stake... depending who is reading the book today
- Erik Bleijenberghehyeah, alright.
- James Collinsits obvious no kind of definitive morality can be gleaned from them... and i think their internal contradictions militate against peaceful coexistance... or even peaceful existance in themselves
- Erik Bleijenbergwhat do you actually believe?what is the meaning of our existence according to you?it is something i cannot help but ponder upon every day
- James Collinsenjoy the earth, sing a beautiful song and disappear
- Erik Bleijenbergso a rather egocentric existenceor sing a beautiful song for the people?honestly man.
- James Collinsits hard... do you believe in destiny as a concept eer
- Erik Bleijenbergi cannot wait for the day that i die.still i have the feeling that there is stuff i must do.
- James Collinsthe object that does nothing doesn't exist... most people are boring and cowardly
- Erik Bleijenbergso that answers your quetion; yes, i do.
- James Collinsor maybe they are happy that wayi don't know
- Erik Bleijenbergmost people are sheep.
- James Collinsbut i think people exist to make the world more interesting
- Erik Bleijenbergbut what is the ultimate goal of that>
- James Collinsto carve the groove of culture
- Erik Bleijenbergwe like to think we're so important.to what?it's questions like these that drive me to the spiritual paths i choose, or coose me, man.
- James Collinswell i don't feel a strenuous need to refute existentialismi'm defined by being from a tiny and young country... theres a chance i can make its art culture more interesting... if only to me
- Erik Bleijenbergthat's a noble goalIMO
- James Collinsbut such answers don't really answer the question of the purpose of all human existance
- Erik Bleijenbergart evokes emotionand emotion is realheh, yeah.i have yet to find an answerone besides spiritual progress
- James Collinsbut it is the same thing with paganism...it revival that began in the early 20th century isn't going to be put back in the bottle... and its very early daystheres a lot of questions to be worked out
- Erik Bleijenberghehyeahwhat do you think happens when you die?excuse me for being straightforward.it's just that we talk about the occult a lot, i'm curious.
- James Collinswellyou cease to existand then you are forgottenunless you work toward furthering something that has some chance of survival
- Erik Bleijenbergbut now you are merely talking about your mundane selfyour bodyright?the physical aspect of your being
- James Collinsthis is as much a political as a spiritual stance... i think all espoused systems of an afterlife have fundamental political effectsnegative onesi mean what do you think homers hades is an explanation of
- James Collinsyou all just become miserable shadesat least its egalitarianand anti death
- Erik Bleijenbergi guess so
- James Collinssometimes i wonder if religion sprang from the practice of burying the dead
- James Collinsonce the rotting corpses are out of your sight you are encouraged to make up stories about where they go
- Erik Bleijenbergit's not unlikely
- James Collinsthats probably a simplistic takei prefer religions arising from dreams
- Erik Bleijenbergwhich is also not unlikely
- James CollinsKnowing from the experience of dreams that he himself seemed able to wander away from himself, he thought in course of time that other living things were somehow double, and the world around him came to be occupied, not merely with things that were alive, but with other selves of these things, that could remain in them or leave them at will.
- Erik Bleijenbergwhere did you get that from?
- James CollinsCeltic Religion in Pre-Christian Times from like 1904its on project Gutenberg
