i think the first step of such a cult

would be a period of study

where those aspects of romanticism that are not welded to the romance of origins are idenitified and examined

the obvious one is the place of the individual and the preeminance of imagination and emotion

places to look = blake, the decadents, the symbolists, romantic modernisms i.e. surrealism

the cult is about the object as much as the practice

it's not just it's ambiguity that's a problem... it's how it invites things like an onus on purity, and creates strange moral calculuses... even if origins could be concretely known

but i can see in it, in romanticism, a positive wild engine of ideas and priorities that has a lot of energy sitting unused

that there are origins, or not, isn't a huge thing in and of itself

it's the romanticising of them and their centrality to whatever romantic project that makes them

a problem



once the path has been uncovered, that's where the cult becomes important
