the zeitgeist is the world tendency, human tendency, collective tendency, that influences us all. the spectacle is a simulacra of the zeitgeist that can be shaped by money and human agents. it keeps the gods outside itself. in a crude way it -resembles- magic. the magician is able to step outside the zeitgeist influence the zeitgeist -magically- and ride ahead of the zeitgeist.
