i think the desire to link the gods together through elaborate webs of relationship are largely a product of writing, and not how the gods were initially encountered, and our desire to make these webs of relation fit and be complete alienates us from the relationship between gods and mortals, which is the key relationship and how meaningful understanding of the gods is acquired
