and all magicians are at risk of being branded as such
for the same reason christians are real insistant there are no more prophets

it's probably part of the puzzle as to why murrays witch cult hypothesis worked so well
the witch is kind of nothing

before the witch cult hypothesis plenty of christians were very instant spiritualists were doing witchcraft
also anyone reading tarot
or any other kind of fortune telling
basically anyone of low or questionable social standing practicing magic
which is also a term with about as much definition as witch while the insistence that magic and religion were separate categories held
