On summoning extra dimensional entities and storytelling
<obli> is it wrong to use the mass media to summon entities from another dimension
<obli> becuase i have a good idea how to do it
<obli> unfortunately I don't have the financial resources
<obli> so it shall remain theoretical
<Otter> lol
<Otter> well, summoning is kind of rude
<Otter> + i suppose it depends on the entities
<obli> nothing too dramatic
<obli> teenage girls
<Otter> you want to summon teenage girls from another dimension?
<obli> have a good idea how to and want aren't exactly the same
<obli> i -want- to see if it works though
<obli> :P
<obli> I might just include a write up on the operation in the "liminal art" zine I am making
<Otter> well, if you don't mind working with dark forces
<Otter> you could get some "reality tv" producer to fund it
<obli> easier than finding funding for an animated series
<obli> i hear reality tv producers are struggling for channel resources nowadays
<obli> the money and prestige is in narrative drama
<obli> and there hassn't been a breakout reality tv hit since the voice
<obli> whic was like... 3+ years ago
<Otter> ah, well if that has finally run its course, i'm glad
<obli> knock on wood
<obli> but yes, it would have to be an anime
<obli> and i cannot fund an anime
<Otter> how would it bring teenage girls from the other side/
<Otter> ?
<obli> anime fans already want their fictional crushes to be real
<obli> the key is to get the fictional crushes to want it as well
<Otter> well, if they're fictional, can't you just write them that way?
<obli> ultimately yes
<obli> but you need to harness narrative causailty
<obli> people need time to get to know them, like them, know their world, and feel their yearning to escape it
<obli> understand it
<obli> and see it is the only possible outcome, the only fair outcome, the story needs to build toward it in all aspects
<Otter> could you start with a comic book?
<obli> maybe
<obli> i suck at dialogue and characteristion though
<obli> :P
<obli> i have a friend who is really good at it
<obli> but he is busy on a videogame
<obli> that will summon nothing
<Otter> maybe you can get one of the girls from dimension x to be your muse
<Otter> have you ever read that novel where all the fictional universes are real?
<obli> no
<Otter> some people find a way to go to them, and they discover that they are fictional characters there
<Otter> if the author or title comes to me, i'll let you know
<obli> :P
<obli> have you seen stranger than fiction?
<Otter> it's probably been more than 30 years since i read it
<Otter> don't think so
<obli> will farrel finds he is a character in some authors story
<obli> by hearing narration
<obli> its pretty weak
<obli> and the end is a massive cop out
<obli> i think you could do a good version of it though
<obli> where somone finds they are a character in another persons story
<obli> by discovring the manuscript
<obli> and so they start rewriting it
<obli> or
<obli> adding too it
<obli> i should say
<obli> until the author finds out
<obli> and it becomes a game of cat and mouse
<obli> where the origonal writer holds all of the power
<obli> but the other person is attempting to manouver the story into a place where narrative causaility means the origional writer cannot write anything but his own defeat
<obli> becuase nothing else fits
<obli> themeticly
<obli> so, the character can "add" to the manuscript for the brief period they have it... but it doesn't cause things to happen.. just means the origional writer has to continue from there
<obli> and they can fuck with the writer irl and try to gaslight him into writing himself into a corner
<obli> but if the writer finds out who is doing it before the character gets him into the corner... then the writer holds all the cards
<obli> scratch the bit about the character writing in the manuscript at all
<obli> been a long time since i've thought about this
<obli> :P
<obli> i found a book
<obli> called "gift"
<obli> by a local poet in the 80's
<obli> he said "no publisher wants to touch small runs"
<obli> oh
<obli> wait
<obli> no distributer
<obli> so he sent it to people at random
<obli> random addresses
<obli> with instructions to pass it on to someone who would like it
<obli> i wonder how many survived
<obli> Otter:
<obli> who is WallBreaker
<Otter> friend of Wulf's
<obli> (y)
<Otter> so instead of writing does the fictional guy take action to manipulate the story?
<obli> yeah
<obli> he starts manipulating the story writer
<obli> inducing paranoia second guessing and self doubt
<Otter> can he write stories in teh writer's universe?
<obli> he's real
<obli> a real person
<obli> they're both real people
<obli> on earth
<obli> only the writer can cause the story to happen by writing it
<obli> the character
<obli> just realises the gravity of the situation
<obli> and will do what it takes to overcome the writer
<obli> Otter:
<Otter> hmmm
<Otter> how/why does the writer have this power?
<obli> magivc
<Otter> is that hwat he wanted, or is that a side effect of what he wanted?
<obli> undecided at this point
<obli> :P
<Otter> hmmm
<Otter> maybe they were parnters at first
<Otter> and theyw ere going to use the magic writing to get money or something
<Otter> but absolute power corrupts absolutely
<Otter> and the magic didn't stop once the character won the lottery
<Otter> though i do like him stumbling on the manuscript unknowing
