why I paganism

[05:54] <buddhist> is there hierachies in the paganism you guys practice now?
[05:54] <buddhist> *are
[05:54] <obli> there was a lot more primacy on divination
[05:55] <obli> which goes hand in hand with concepts of religious authority
[05:55] <@Otter> not to speak of, buddhist
[05:56] <obli> one day there will arise a new delphi
[05:56] <@Otter> i'm a a member of a druid order, and it does have a chief and a few officers, but they would never even think of telling me what to believe or do
[05:59] <buddhist> What's ithe ultimate goal of your form of paganism?
[06:04] <obli> to recognise the sacred
[06:10] <buddhist> for what end? (Not trying to be confrontation, just curious)
[06:10] <buddhist> confrontational
[06:11] <buddhist> sorry, I'm tired. typing is much worse than usual.
[06:15] <obli> creative ends, to reintegrate with tradition, to develop a world view that isn't mired in monotheistic and/or analytic assumptions
[06:20] <buddhist> why create, reintegrate, etc.? :)
[06:27] <obli> both paganism (in it current form) and new zealand culture stand at important formative crossroads, people acting in these arenas today stand to make a lasting impact. I think paganism has a lot of offer New Zealand culture and I think New Zealand culture needs vectors of bold exploration which paganism offers
[06:31] <obli> also polytheism explains the world better than other world views
[06:33] <buddhist> how so?
[06:34] <@Otter> buddhist, the pagan goals are highly individual
[06:35] <@Otter> because they clearly defined religions with a strong hierarchies, generally accepted scripture, and official evangelical material
[06:36] <@Otter> you can't really say this tradition is about x
[06:36] <@Otter> so your question boils down to "what is your ultimate goal"
[06:37] <@Otter> and i'm too sleepy to answer that coherently atm
[06:37] <@Otter> because they *are not* clearly defined religions
[06:37] <buddhist> I can understand that, Otter :) what's your ultimate goal, then?
[06:38] <obli> paganism arises from man's religious response to his environment
[06:40] <buddhist> :)
[06:40] <@Otter> must nap
[06:40] <@Otter> be well, all
[06:40] == Otter [~Otter@172.77.211.9] has left #paganjourney []
[06:40] <obli> on some level it should just come naturally

[06:40] <Otter> try me when i'm more     coherent, buddhist, lol
[06:46] <buddhist> how do you see polytheism as a better worldview, obli?
[06:47] <obli> it explains the world better
[06:50] <obli> the universe comprised of numberous powers acting upon each other
[06:50] <obli> numerous
[06:51] <obli> is manifestly more correct than it being the act of a single will.

[06:51] <buddhist> I agree that is the case
[06:51] <buddhist> I agree that is the case

[06:54] <obli> Also paganism doesn't require any orthodoxy in belief about the afterlife
[06:54] <buddhist> I see an infinite number of wills, each acting upon one another - some wills are stronger than others, others are weaker
[06:55] <obli> which is one of the most manipulative aspects of transcendent religions
