why I paganism
<buddhist> is there hierachies in the paganism you guys practice now?
<buddhist> *are
<obli> there was a lot more primacy on divination
<obli> which goes hand in hand with concepts of religious authority
<@Otter> not to speak of, buddhist
<obli> one day there will arise a new delphi
<@Otter> i'm a a member of a druid order, and it does have a chief and a few officers, but they would never even think of telling me what to believe or do
<buddhist> What's ithe ultimate goal of your form of paganism?
<obli> to recognise the sacred
<buddhist> for what end? (Not trying to be confrontation, just curious)
<buddhist> confrontational
<buddhist> sorry, I'm tired. typing is much worse than usual.
<obli> creative ends, to reintegrate with tradition, to develop a world view that isn't mired in monotheistic and/or analytic assumptions
<buddhist> why create, reintegrate, etc.? :)
<obli> both paganism (in it current form) and new zealand culture stand at important formative crossroads, people acting in these arenas today stand to make a lasting impact. I think paganism has a lot of offer New Zealand culture and I think New Zealand culture needs vectors of bold exploration which paganism offers
<obli> also polytheism explains the world better than other world views
<buddhist> how so?
<@Otter> buddhist, the pagan goals are highly individual
<@Otter> because they clearly defined religions with a strong hierarchies, generally accepted scripture, and official evangelical material
<@Otter> you can't really say this tradition is about x
<@Otter> so your question boils down to "what is your ultimate goal"
<@Otter> and i'm too sleepy to answer that coherently atm
<@Otter> because they *are not* clearly defined religions
<buddhist> I can understand that, Otter :) what's your ultimate goal, then?
<obli> paganism arises from man's religious response to his environment
<buddhist> :)
<@Otter> must nap
<@Otter> be well, all
== Otter [~Otter@172.77.211.9] has left #paganjourney []
<obli> on some level it should just come naturally
<Otter> try me when i'm more coherent, buddhist, lol
<buddhist> how do you see polytheism as a better worldview, obli?
<obli> it explains the world better
<obli> the universe comprised of numberous powers acting upon each other
<obli> the universe comprised of numberous powers acting upon each other
<obli> numerous
<obli> is manifestly more correct than it being the act of a single will.
<buddhist> I agree that is the case
<buddhist> I agree that is the case
<obli> Also paganism doesn't require any orthodoxy in belief about the afterlife
<buddhist> I see an infinite number of wills, each acting upon one another - some wills are stronger than others, others are weaker
<obli> which is one of the most manipulative aspects of transcendent religions
